The Birth of this CD

The Chinese music Bell Sound of Monastery gave birth to this CD. It was composed by a Hongkonger from Guangzhou during the World War II. Originally, it was written for Chinese flute where at that time was one of the major instrument of the society, quite near the position of violin or piano today. The music was written for the Tin Hau Temple by the side of Nathan Road, it has been famous for open market since then.

The composer Chui was from a rich family in Guangzhou, because of the Sino-Japanese war he fled to Hong Kong and stayed in an inn by the side of Tin Hau Temple and composed an instrumental music while listening to the bells of the temple daily. He used the name of monastery instead of temple because the former denotes deep thinking. Numerous thought came because of war and of the objection of his family for playing music and not running business.

The music took one whole year for composing and is different from popular song not using the existing format of A — A´— B — A, just the format of former half and latter half. In order to be sentiment, the placement of rhythm use syncopation so even if tis quite   the end and would not have the majestic rhythm of military march. It was put into lyrics as popular song and had different version in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and South East Asia. While for instrumental music, also adopted to various Chinese instrument, but I first adapt it into piano version. Various singers had refrain the latter part by singing twice, thrice and four times. This CD adapted the latter part into four times in order to be more enthusiastic. The key was also changed from C major to E flat major so as to make the bell sounds in a more solemn appearance.

Normally, I play the piano in 1st floor lobby of Queen Mary Hospital during Saturdays to encourage patients to pass their hard times, once after the recital of Bell Sound of Monastery, a senior musician approached me and asked me to issue a CD so those patients not easy to come down still have a chance to listen. Actually, since 2014 when students from other continents come to our company to have financial internship, I had arranged a recital of this song to them so as to promote Chinese culture. This time my sponsor in Shanghai and Wuxi arranged the studio and designer for CD packet by using the artwork of my daughter so as to help long term disease patients to pass the strait. As a matter of fact, patients in hospitals are not easy to pass those hard times and very often would have a bee in their bonnet during midnight, thus encouragements are needed to let them to be more positive. Among the various Chinese and western instrument, piano is the best to depict the bell sound of this temple.

After the CD issued, I went to Guangzhou to fetch it and the first piece was dispatch to a Russian student of musical college sitting next to me in the high speed rail, for his girlfriend was having symptom of anxiety and depression. Anyway, next time when you pass through the Tin Hau Temple of Temple Street, remember to bring the MP3 version and listen to the bell sound both in the temple and music where you might have some special revelation.

My 66th Blood Donation

B7

At the high age of 65, I just finished my 66th blood donation on 19th March 2016. and next month I will be 66.

B1

According to the regulations of the Hong Kong Red Cross, normal people should stop their donation at the age of 60. But if he or she is a regular donator; it can be carry on until 65. The prerequisite is that the donation must kept on doing every year after 60, once it has stopped for one whole year, it cannot be carried on.

B3

So how about after 65, each time it must be approved by their doctor. Thus it can be carried on until 70. The same term is that is must be carried on each year, once it has be stopped for one whole year, it cannot carry on.

B4

But when after 70, it must be stopped no matter what physical condition of the donator. But when attending the doctor, it must be done during office hours and it is not so convenient to me. Therefore this time might be my last time of donation.

However, 66 times of donation is a nice record, normally, each donation can save 3 lives. I have already saved 198 lives.

No matter for what purpose, saving life is about all. Don’t mind how Heaven would pay you back, its no a problem. Just do whatsoever you think you should.

I am waiting for my students to break my record, hope all of you can thus become a super-professor.
